 3309(Riparia Rupestris 3309 Couderc)

 

이 대목은 미국 북동부(New York 주)에서 광범위하게 사용되지만 호주에서는 확대되지 않고 있다. 이 대목은 Victoria북동부에서 1900년대 초기 필록세라의 피해를 입은 포도원의 재건을 위해 흔히 사용되었다. Cirami(1999)에 따르면, 중-저 수세를 가진 이 대목은 착립이 좋지 않은 수종에 적합하며, 성숙을 촉진시키고, 수분이 충분히 공급되는 추운기후에서 토심이 깊고 배수가 잘되는 토양에 적합하다.
이 대목은 건조하거나 토심이 얕은 조건에는 적합치 않으며, 점토질 토양에도 적합치 않고, 석회질 토양에는 적당한 내성을 가지고 있으며, 염 토양은 잘 견뎌내지 못한다. 이 대목은 점토질 토양의 유목에서 과다 착과될 때 가리 결핍을 야기하는 경향이 있다. 3309C에 접목된 유목은 아주 많은 양분을 요구할 수 있다. 이 대목은 필록세하에는 강한 저항성이지만, 선충에는 약하다. 이 대목은 근두암종에는 저항성이며, Phytophthora에는 감수성이다. 발근및 접목이 쉽다. Burgundy에서는 SO4에 의해 대체되었다.
3309대목은 Victoria에서 최근 2회정도 시험용으로만 사용되었을 뿐이며, 여기서 이 대목은 적당한 수세 및 적당하게 양호한 수확량을 보였다. 이 대목은 일관되게 낮은 과즙 pH를 기록하였지만, Chardonnay 또는 Pinot Noir에서 성숙을 현저히 촉진시키거나 과방당 과립수를 현저히 증가시키지는 않았다. 이 대목은 다른 대목들 보다 염소(Cl)을 상당히 많이 흡수한다. 토심이 얕은 이중 토양(Duplex soil) 뿐만 아니라 Sancy 점토질 양토(Brown dermosol)에서 만족스럽게 자랐다.
이 대목은 높은 필록세라 저항성을 가지고 있고, 선충에 대한 저항성은 관계된 종류레 따라 다르다. 또 다른 Couderc 교잡종인 3306은 3309와 유사한 특성을 가지고 있지만, 3309C보다 더 습하고 미세한 조성을 가진 토양에 잘 적응된 것으로 알려졌다. 이 대목은 2회의 실험에서만 시험되었으며, Duplex soil과 함께, 여기서 평가된 특성에 대해 상대적으로 작은 과립중을 제외하고는 중간 범위로 나타났다.

This rootstock is used extensively in the north east of USA(New York State) but not to any extent now in Australia. It was one of the common rootstocks used for the reconstitution of phylloxrea affected vineyards in the early 1900's in north east Victoria.
According to Cirami(1999), the rootstock has low to moderate vigor, is suited for varieties with poor fruit set, it advances fruit maturity, and it is suited to deep, well-drained soils in a cool climate that are well supplied with water.

It is not suitable for dry and shallow conditions, not appropriate for heavy soils, has a moderate tolerance to limey soil, and does not tolerate saline soils well. It has tendency to induce potassium deficiency in overcropped young vines on clay soils. Young vines grafted to 3309 can be very nutrient demanding. It has high resistance to phylloxera, but is susceptible to nematodes. It is resistant to crown gall and susceptible to phytophthora. Easy to root and graft. It is being replaced by SO4 in Burgundy.

The rootstock 3309 has only been  used in a couple of recent trials in Victoria where it shows moderate vigor with moderately good yields. The rootstock has recorded a consistently lower juice pH, but did not significantly advance maturity or improve berry number per bunch on Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. It takes up greater amounts of chloride than other rootstocks. Performed satisfactorily in a sancy clay loam(brown dermosol) as well as a shallow duplex soil.eight.

It has high phylloxera resistance and resistance to nematodes varies depending on the species involved.
Another Couderc hybrid, 3306, has similar characteristics to 3309, but is reputed to be better suited to wetter, fine textured soils than 3309. It has only been tested in 2 trials, both with duplex soils, where it performed mostly mid range for the characteristics assessed, except for a relatively lower berry weight.
